Knight of Wands

Minor arcanum

Also: Knight of Rods · Knight of Staves

Upright

Charging in, magnificent and unmeasured

Impulse, drive, departure, boldness, speed

Reversed

Haste that leaves wreckage behind it

Haste, wreckage, dropped halfway, recklessness

What the card means

Upright

Charging in, magnificent and unmeasured. The Knight of Wands does what everyone else is still agreeing about, and that is both what makes him good and what makes him dangerous. He does not always arrive, and without him nobody would have set off.

Reversed

Haste that leaves wreckage behind it. Started brilliantly and dropped it once it got dull. Sometimes a person around whom everything catches fire, including what should not.

As a person

A young man on the move: bold, charming, impatient, fond of risk, the road and new ventures. Wins people quickly and is gone as quickly. In shadow, a hot temper and promises that do not hold.

Love and relationships

Upright

A fast, passionate beginning. Somebody pursuing openly and not counting the steps. Splendid, and too early to predict.

Reversed

Left as fast as he arrived. Or a relationship running on drive alone, with no conversation in it.

Work and business

Upright

Somebody takes it on and carries it. A good time for a push, a trip, a launch. A poor one for what needs patience.

Reversed

Done fast and will need doing again. Or a leader nobody can keep up with.

Money

Upright

A fast deal, a risk that may pay. Do not put in more than you are willing to lose.

Reversed

Spent on appetite. Or a deal lost to impatience.

The card's advice

Go. But decide in advance where you will stop - what the Knight of Wands lacks is not nerve but a brake.

As the card of the day

A fast, loud day. Good for the road and for being first to act. Poor for delicate negotiation.

What is depicted

An armoured rider with salamanders on his tunic charges on a rearing horse, wand raised. The visor is up, the scarf flies. The horse has reared - the movement started before the direction did.

Zodiac sign and correspondences

Fire in pure movement. By zodiac sign, Sagittarius (the knights are usually given the mutable signs); more broadly, all the fire signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Yes or no
