What the card means

Upright

Beginning to learn something that takes years. The Page holds a coin in both hands and looks at it without lifting his eyes: he can do nothing yet and already knows what he will be doing. A slow beginning with a future in it.

Reversed

Studying the thing forever to avoid starting it. Course after course and not one commission. Sometimes a craft taken up without interest, which is why it will not go.

As a person

A diligent young person or an apprentice learning a trade in earnest: practical, patient, reliable. Can mean news about money, study or work. In shadow, slowness and indecision.

Love and relationships

Upright

A relationship built slowly and in earnest. Somebody is genuinely looking at you rather than being polite.

Reversed

Looking into it for a third year. Or interest with no effort behind it.

Work and business

Upright

A new trade, an apprenticeship, the first rung of a long ladder. Learn now: in a year it will cost more.

Reversed

Preparing instead of working. Or an apprentice with no interest in it.

Money

Upright

First small money from a new skill. A beginning that an income grows out of.

Reversed

Paying for training that is never applied.

What is depicted

A youth stands in a field holding a pentacle out in front of him in both hands, studying it. Ploughed earth, trees and hills in the distance. He is not walking - he is looking at what he will be making.
