Ace of Wands
Minor arcanumAlso: 1 of Wands · Wands 1 · Ace of Rods · Ace of Staves
Upright
A spark worth acting on, before it is reasonable
A spark, a beginning, impulse, opportunity, energy
Reversed
The impulse fizzles because nothing was started
The impulse gone out, an idea with no act, a false start
What the card means
Upright
A hand out of a cloud holds a wand, and it has not been planted in anything yet. The spark arrives before it becomes reasonable: you want to do it and have nothing yet to explain it with. The value of an ace is that it does not last - it has to be taken now.
Reversed
The impulse fizzled because nothing was started. The idea was discussed with everyone and made with no one. Sometimes a false start: taken up and dropped by the third day.
Love and relationships
Upright
An attraction that started fast and physically. Meeting somebody with a spark rather than a calculation. For a couple, wanting each other again.
Reversed
It flared and went out. Or the interest is there and neither of you moves.
Work and business
Upright
A new project, a commission, an idea worth taking up. The best of it is the first few days: while it burns, a lot gets done.
Reversed
An idea that has been talked about for six months. Or started and never carried to a first result.
Money
Upright
A chance to earn appears suddenly. A small stake now beats a large one next month.
Reversed
Money put in on impulse and then gone cold on. Spent on a start that never happened.
The card's advice
Begin today, even with something small. A spark does not need approval - it needs planting in something, and preferably the same day.
As the card of the day
A day on which you want to act. Use it: what gets done on impulse today will need persuading tomorrow.
What is depicted
A hand comes out of a cloud holding a wand that still has leaves on it - a living stick, not a planed one. A castle on a hill below, nothing built around it. Leaves are falling: the energy is already going.
